At the place I work, Moonrise, some of the kids I work with found out that I'm a videographer, and immediately wanted to film something. I would be able to help them visualize any project they had in mind! So I told them to come up with a plot and list of characters, and I'd be the director. They decided on what could come to be known as Rainbow Kitties.
Rainbow Kitties has three main (kitty) protagonists: Kate, Angel, and Queen Sparkles. In the first episode, Kate and Angel travel to another planet, Cat City, where they meet the Queen, and have an epic dance party. In episodes 2 and 3, a villainous character, Scratch, and his accomplice, Jewels, pursue the kitties in order to catch them.
Oh, the mind of a child. Through this experience, the girls were able to learn important elements of cinematography, such as lighting, blocking, getting proper audio, and video editing. What's more: every episode was filmed on an iPhone, and edited on an iPad. This was a great project for helping kids to understand that the only limit to what they want to create is their own imagination.
